Marc is a U of M fan, which in turn means our family has been U of M fans. Honestly, I don't really care one way or the other. I like the sweatshirts and the colors are versatile. Face it, it's a good team to like because you can find U of M stuff everywhere you look.
Problem: Our daycare family are big Ohio State fans. It's been a little fun rivalry over the past 2 years. But all of the sudden Sam has jumped ship and informed Marc that he likes Ohio State. OMG... you'd have though Sam told Marc he was gay. Thinking about it, that may have gotten a better response from Marc. So what's a mother to do? Buy Sam some Ohio State stuff, of course. It started when "Santa" brought him a drinking mug and t-shirt. Then we were at a flea market and we saw a welcome mat that Sam just had to have for his room. Then Finish Line had Croc charms and a fleece blanket.... What's even funnier than buying Sam the stuff, is seeing Marc get genuinely mad about it. I mean it. At first I thouht he was just throwing a little tantrum, but he got truly upset that I was bringing this "stuff" into the house. I tried to tell him I was just fostering a little competitiveness between father and son. He said that he'll never be able to sit and enjoy a college game with his only son, that I robbed him of that joy. And I'm evil because the more of a tantrum he throws about it, the more I feed Sam's habit.
I think he's just mad because Ohio State usually beats Michigan.

Someone needs to get a grip...and it ain't you or Sam.
I'd be buying Sam tickets to the next game!!
Is Marc really that upset? Do you want me to get some OSU cups for the party on the 17th?
I actually feel a tremendous urge to buy Sam stuff too...
my husband is born & raised a U of M fan. he's from the Flint area. our oldest, now 13 (& a girl), has takien a liking to OSU as well...we live in Ohio, & OSU has been winning lately (historically, U of M IS the better team though). regardless, James is utterly upset too, so i feel your pain. but, i'm pretty sure he wouldn't want our only son to be gay either...
decisions, decisions...
