We had no plans for New Year's Eve this year. Actually, our plans were to have no plans. We went out earlier in the afternoon and rented Superbad, Hairspray and Mr. Brooks, got some snacks, some beer and came home to put on sweats and lay around. We even turned down plans to go out with brother-in-law and girlfriend. We couldn't have gotten a babysitter even if we tried. Parents were out of town and other sitters were already booked anyways.
So, it's 7:00, we've watched a movie already, and Alex's friend calls. "Can she come to my Grandma's with us to spend the night?" Sure, why not. We still have 1 kid left. Now it's 7:30. The phone rings, it's the neighbor down the road. "Can Sam come with us to Jimmy John's to eat and spend the night?" What the hell...
Now it's 7:45. Marc and I sit alone in the living room, in our pajamas, feeling pretty pathetic. Out of obligation we decide to go out and get some dinner. How could we not. It's New Year's Eve and we have no kids for the night. So we got dressed and headed out to the local bar/restaurant that we'd never take the kids to, only they're not open. What bar isn't open on New Year's Eve?! So we go into town, ending up at Red Lobster. After only a 20 minute wait, we eat, drink and get home by 9:30, get pajamas back on, and settle back down onto the couch, with enough time to watch another movie before the ball drops at midnight. And believe it or not... we actually made it 'til midnight!
