typical night

Ahhhh... the joys of motherhood. Last night was a typical weeknight at our house. Marc was at a high school basketball game (he's the announcer so he does this 2-3 times a week) which left the kids and I home alone. I pick up the kids from daycare, they're already fighting. They fight in the car. I yell at them for fighting in the car. We get home and I start dinner. Sam starts playing/fighting with the puppy. Alex yells at Sam because he and the dog trampled over her. Sam yells at her for yelling at him. I yell from the kitchen for them to stop yelling at each other.

Alex starts her homework and ends up in tears because she needs help. She wants me to give her the answers. I won't so she's mad at me. I yell at her because I think she's being lazy. Dog and Sam are still tearing through the house. Dinner is ready (which was our typical quick meal of Hamburger Helper). Alex wants to eat dinner in her room. I tell her no. She asks why. I say, "Because I said so." Alex again asks, "Why not?" Now I yell at her for not listening to me the first 2 times I told her no.

I start folding the mountain of laundry that has been laying in the middle of the living room for 4 days. Sam says, "Mom, will you play pool with me?" "Sam, I'm folding laundry." "But Mom, I really want you to play pool with me." "Sam, I told you I'm folding laundry, and bedtime is in 10 minutes." Sam says, "Why do we have to go to bed?" Alex complains, "I just finished my homework, I don't have any time to do anything else."

Marc gets home at 9:15 p.m. The kids are in bed. I'm laying on the couch, the dogs are asleep on the floor. He says, "You look relaxed. Quiet night?" I want him to die a slow, painful death.
